MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST — FULL-TIME (36-40 HRS)
Full-Time/Hourly — Charleston, SC
As the first point of contact for patients and visitors, the Medical Receptionist plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment. This position involves managing front desk operations, scheduling appointments, handling patient inquiries, verifying insurance, and ensuring smooth daily operations within the practice.

Previous experience as a medical receptionist or in a similar role preferred

Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as eClinicalWorks, TriMed, Dentrix, or Epic
-
Strong knowledge of medical office procedures and terminology

Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
-
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
-
Familiarity with phone systems and handling high call volumes
-
Must be aware of HIPAA Rules and Guidelines and how to properly protect the privacy of patients

Communication Skills Required

Must be able to speak with patients and use practice management system to answer inquires accurately and confidently, while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Must be able to communicate the details of patients issues with accuracy to the physician. This includes medication issues, medication requests, and pertinent patient messages left for the physician.

Must be able to communicate physicians responses or directives to patients with 100% accuracy. This includes written data, in person, or audible communication.

Must at all times show that you care and show compassion for patients concerns and wellbeing

Daily Job Duties and Responsibilities

Verify patient insurance information and collect co-pays or payments
-
Inform patients of medical office procedures and policy
-
Assist patients with intake paperwork and other documentation
-
Answer incoming phone calls and schedule appointments using medical scheduling software

Transfer calls as required
-
Schedule hospital admissions, tests, scans and outside appointments for patients

Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality

Maintain patient records and update information as necessary

Assist with medical billing and coding tasks

Manage referrals from external organizations

Coordinate referrals to specialists and follow up on patient appointments

Handle patient inquiries and provide excellent customer service

Ensure reception area is well maintained, neat and clean​

Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or GED; Associates or Certificate in any Allied Health Field preferred, but not required
-
At least 2 years experience in healthcare field

Previous experience as a medical receptionist or in a similar role preferred
-
Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems (e.g. Athena, TriMed, DrChrono, etc.)

Knowledge of HIPAA regulations

Strong knowledge of medical office procedures and terminology
-
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
-
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
-
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
-
Familiarity with phone systems and handling high call volumes
